Sagamore Bridge Construction

PROJECT UPDATE: All 4 lanes of the Sagamore Bridge will be open to traffic during Patriots' Day weekend, Friday, April 16 starting at 6 a.m. through Monday, April 19.

The US Army Corps of Engineers has resumed construction work on the Sagamore Bridge as of March 6, 2010. The work includes deck repairs and other bridge improvement repairs, and is currently slated to wrap up by the end of spring. The work means there is only one lane traffic in each direction over the bridge, and no wide loads will be permitted. With this round of Sagamore Bridge construction there are some new mechanisms in place to try and monitor and report on current bridge traffic and backup delays.

Message boards are up and in place on either side of the Sagamore Bridge, to help alert motorists on bridge work status. The US Army Corps of Engineers has an Email Alert notification system setup, if you want to sign up to receive these Email Alerts, go to the following web page http://www.nae.usace.army.mil/recreati/ccc/news/bridgenotices.htm and select "click here" on that web page to add yourself to their notification list.

Another online resource for updated status on the Sagamore Bridge is the SmarTraveler website, which updates their information every few minutes. You can also check out webcam views of the Sagamore Bridge from the Sagamore Bridge webcam available on the OnCape website.

The US Army Corps of Engineers has a blog you can read to keep informed about the Sagamore Bridge project status. Alternatively, you can follow progress from the US Army Corps of Engineers Facebook Group or on follow them on Twitter.

The bridge repair project is utilizing iCone traffic barrels, which are capable of monitoring traffic speed and link up to a web site to report this information. To check out the current average speed of traffic near the Sagamore bridge, click on the traffic barrel icon from this iCone map link, you will see a pop up window that tells you the average speed (MPH) and when that value was recorded.
